Treating Patients Like Royalty

Oct 06, 2020

Hi, this is Dave Kats with Therapist Consultants and I have a tip for you.

About 30 years ago, I had an opportunity that very few consultants have. I had an opportunity to work with the biggest and best plastic surgeons in Hollywood and in Beverly Hills. I went into their offices to work with them. I will tell you that the way they treat patients is a whole world apart from the way that a lot of therapists treat patients.
When you walk in, the receptionist is dressed to the hilt. They come around to the front desk. They shake hands with you. They call you by name even though you just walked in. They automatically know who you are because they've been waiting for you. They offer you several different types of things to drink. They fill up the form for you. You don't have to write it down. They ask you the questions. It's beautiful all over. The doctor is impeccable in his or her dress. They have everything exactly the way you want it.
Now you compare that to therapists who sometimes are a little bit slow, lower energy, not have the nicest office in the world, walk slowly back to the room where they're going to treat somebody, and the energy is low. I will tell you that energy flows from above down, from inside out. It flows from the high-energy person to the low-energy person. If you're the high-energy person, they're going to come to you. There's an old saying that I like. It says, "If you're on fire, people will come just to watch you burn."
If you're a therapist that's on fire, you don't have to be wild, but you have to be more excited about their life than they are because you're their leader. Here's what I'm saying in this session. When you meet people, make sure that you treat them as first-class royalty because they are. You know why you should treat everybody as somebody? Here's why; because they are. Everybody is an individual, and they deserve special attention. When you start giving your best attention to, even though, a common person that comes into your office, that's when your practice is going to grow.

This is Dave Kats. Thanks for listening
