How To Shoot Good Videos

Sep 03, 2023

Hi, this is Dave Kats with Therapist Consultants and I have a tip for you. Recently, we talked about the fact that you need to shoot short videos. You're going to use them on psychology today, you're going to use them on your website, you're going to use them on social media. So today, I want to talk to you about how to shoot good video. Now, you can shoot it yourself, but you're going to need a smartphone to shoot it or you can have someone professional help you shoot those videos, but you need to shoot short videos.

Now, here's what I suggest. Stay close to the camera because chances are your microphone is in your camera and the closer you are to the camera, the closer you are to your microphone, the closer you are to your microphone, the better sound you're going to get. The second thing I would suggest you do is have light in front of you. I'm in a studio right now and I have two studio lights right in front of me to brighten up the room and to have the right ambiance in the room.

Have a light in front of you probably coming from two different directions or even one of those halo lights will work when you shoot your video. Don't have any light behind you, don't shoot with a window behind you because it'll just darken your image in most cases. The next thing you have to do is make sure that your camera is level and that it shoots down low enough. Make sure your head is not cut off on the top, but don't get a shot from here on up. That isn't inviting. Get a shot where you see a little bit of the body. It helps be a more inviting video.

Then, the next thing is make sure your background is normal. Don't have something in the background that dates you like maybe you're talking to people you say tonight and it's light outside in the windows. So make sure that your background is normal. It doesn't have anything that would be distracting. Then the last thing is I would suggest that you have room on the front and back of your video so that you can edit it. If you reach forward to turn on your video, you got to be able to edit that off. Leave a little room on the front and back of your video where you sit still before you get started so you can do your own editing.

Then the last thing I would tell you to do is don't be too serious. Smile because a smile is very inviting to the people you need to see. This is Dave Kats. Thanks for listening.
