Enjoy Your Practice!

Oct 02, 2023

Hi, this is Dave Kats with Therapist Consultants and I have a tip for you. I would encourage you to enjoy your practice more. I talked to a medical doctor who said one of the best days in his early practice life is when he realized he could release patients that he didn't feel like he was a good fit with.

They didn't like him, he didn't like them, it wasn't something that he was proficient in and he just found out that he had more fun in practice when he released those people that didn't fit his practice and fit him well. The same thing is probably true with you. You've heard of the Pareto Principle where 80% of the people cause 20% of the problem and 20% of the people cause 80% of the problem. Well, that's true in your practice too.

You have to look at what patients are you not well suited to treat. Maybe they don't like you so well, maybe they confront you a lot, maybe they don't grow under your care, maybe you don't like the things that they say and you're just not a good fit. I would encourage you to get rid of those patients and send them to another therapist who would like them better, who would help them more, who would have more fun with them than you are. Then you can concentrate totally on the people that you enjoy and your practice will become much more fun. This is Dave Kats, thanks for listening.
